Linux the Wrong Choice?

Search Enterprise Linux’s article “Linux, Sometimes its the wrong choice“. Caught my interest. However, I think the consultant involved in this case is a bit misguided. Throw out the programmer who’s been causing the problems, not the solution! Replacing Linux with a Microsoft solution certainly stops the contractor from tweaking the OS and its applications, but probably also requires considerable changes to the clients corporate infrastructure, not to mention expense.

In the same situation I’d back up the data and the custom apps, then reinstall from scratch with a “clean” distribution. Much less pain and expense I’d have thought. But first and foremost, get rid of the cause of the problem, which in this case isn’t the OS, or the availability of the source code, its the contractor who broke it!
