Understanding LDAP

DevShed explains some of the concepts behind LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol). LDAP servers allow you to greate a searchable “directory” of people in your organisation.

If you’re trying to replace Exchange with a Linux solution (as we’re looking to do), LDAP gives you a way to replace Exchange’s global address list. Something that many organisations rely on.
